Posture and Lower Back Pain - Right Side

How does our posture affect our lower back pain right side? When our muscles are forced to stay in position for a longtime, such as when we stand in line at the bank or ticket counter, we want to give them relief by adjusting our stance. Unfortunately, this adjustment often takes the form of weight on one hip or positions that cause stress on one side of our back. Since many of us are right handed, we often put this stress on that area, causing lower back pain right side.

Instead of shifting your hips into abnormal positions, avoid damage by using a low stool, about 3 inches off the ground, to rest one foot on. After 5-10 minutes, switch feet. Make sure you keep your ears and hips facing the same direction to avoid awkward positions. Obviously, we cannot be expected to stay in rigid positions all day so as you move and shift, try to be aware of your spine. Stretch and bend regularly and your back will feel much better at the end of the day.

Driving for long periods of time can cause lower back pain right side as well. Most cars today have a lumbar support switch that you can use to give your back some relief during long hauls. If not, use a cloth or other soft material to give your lumbar region the support it needs to keep straight. Pay attention to your posture. Pull the seat back forward and do not recline. Be sure the steering wheel is not so far from your shoulders that it pulls the muscles in your upper back. You will avoid pain if you stop frequently to walk and stretch during long drives.

While sitting at your desk, in front of the TV or at a table, avoid crossing your legs unless it is to perform a stretch. Leg crossing throws the back out of alignment and can cause lower back pain right side. Sit straight and choose a chair with lumbar support and a stiff back. Make sure your knees are slightly higher than your hips with feet flat on the floor. Again, if you are sitting all day, you may have to shift from time to time. Just come back to the original straight position after a few minutes and you will save yourself a lot of discomfort.

Carrying luggage can contribute to lower back pain right side because we usually throw a bag over our shoulder and our backs immediately contort to an awkward position. Sometimes positions like this are necessary for short periods of time, but if held too long, they can create severe lower back pain right side. Try to stretch your muscles if you find that you have had to hold poor posture for any period of time. Doing so will go a long way to reducing your pain.
